President Jakaya Kikwete

President Jakaya Kikwete is expected to give his final address to Members of Parliament on July 9, 2015 before it is officially dissolved.

According to a timetable issued yesterday by the Parliament’s Steering Committee, the 20th parliament will officially end after the President’s address.

The House has so far endorsed the Finance Bill, 2015, the One Stop Border Posts Act, 2015, Commodity Exchange Act 2015 and the Tanzania Postal Bank (Repeal and Transitional Provision) Act 2015.

Others include the Whistleblowers and Witness Protection Bill 2015, Petroleum Bill 2015, Oil and Gas Revenue Management Bill 2015, the Tanzania Extractive Industry (Transparency and Accountability) Bill 2015 and the Teachers Service Commission Bill 2015.

The House was also set to debate the Access to Information Bill 2015 that was removed after stakeholders demanded it first pass through the Parliamentary Committee on Justice and Constitutional Affairs.

They also wanted improvement of some sections of the bill before it is endorsed.
