The PS said the main purpose of the commemoration is to provide education and increase awareness to the community about the availability of legal aid and its importance.

“The week will also be marked by visiting various victims in prisons and police stations in order to provide the service where they are,” the PS said.

He added that various private advocates and other paralegals will join and effectively engage in the provision of legal aid to the needy.

Mpanju noted, “This will be implemented in order to make sure that the community gets its rights.”

Legal aid is the right of every one as it is enshrined in the constitution.

Mpanju said the government was coordinating the event by collaborating with others legal stakeholders in the country in order to reach a big number of people.

He called for those who need legal aid to attend the commemoration where experts will aid them as a way of bringing back to the community what they benefited from their profession.

The Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Prof Palamagamba Kabudi is expected to officiate at the event.
