TRA nets 'fake taxman '

THE Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) yesterday in Dar es Salaam Region arrested fake taxman who allegedly posed as official from the authority.

According to the statement issued yesterday by TRA’s Services and Education to tax payers department, the arrested man was identified as Dunia Tema.

The man was arrested on November 3, this year, and was found serving customers at the Dar es Salaam’s Kariakoo, Gerezani-based offices.

The TRA statement said that a case was filed under RB no MS/RB/9263/17 shortly after the suspect was arrested and taken to the Msimbazi police station.

The TRA’s department urged the public to immediately report to the nearby TRA offices, police stations or call 0800780078 or 0800750075 in case they suspected any wrong doing of such persons.

The statement further suggested that customers should not accept to be served by unidentified officials  from the tax office.

“The TRA would like to remind its customers that all of its officials should have identity cards bearing their names and titles,” TRA statement reads in part.

In recent years, there has been increasing incidents of people who pretended to be officials from the parastatals and health sector who pretended to be doctors.

TRA was established by Act of Parliament No. 11 of 1995, and started its operations on 1st July 1996.  In carrying out its statutory functions, TRA is regulated by law, and is responsible for administering impartially various taxes of the central government.
