JKT takes top slots in cross country series

Athletes from National Service (JKT) have shined in the Arusha Cross County Series, which was held at Prisons grounds in the northern city yesterday.

Athletes take part in the national cross country meet in Arusha.

The event which attracted many runners was organized by the African Ambassadors Athletics Club (AAAC) and sponsored by Posso International Promotions, through Maxmillian Iranqe, Sunrise Radio, Aspire Media and the Arusha Training Sports Center through Francis John.

One of the organizers, Denis Malle, said that in the 10 km category Emmanuel Giniki from JKT emerged the winner by clocking 28.02.

Joseph Panga, also from JKT, finished second with 28.34 while Fabian Joseph from JKT was third with 28.47 while top local athlete, Alphonse Simbu from JKT, was fourth with 28.55.

In women’s 6km category, JKT runners were top three with Magdalena Shauri emerging the winner by clocking 20.5, the second place going to Maycelne Issa, who clocked 20.31, and Angeline Tsere finished third with 20.40.

Malle said in the 2km children category, Glory Patrick from St Jude clocked 8.01 to win the event. Husna Athuman, also from St Jude, finished second with 8.06, and the third place went to Glory Vincent from Wema, who clocked 8.30.

He thanked sponsors and all athletes who took part in the series.

"It was a very good event. Many athletes turned up for this cross county series. We particularly thank the sponsors and all athletes and officials who took part in the event," he said.
