Legislative teams get Sportpesa boost

SportPesa Limited has sponsored local football and netball teams competing in the East African inter-parliamentary games expected to start today at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

SportPesa Director of Administration and Compliance in Tanzania, Tarimba Abbas

SportPesa Director of Administration and Compliance in Tanzania, Tarimba Abbas, said yesterday in Dar es Salaam they had decided to engage in supporting Tanzanian teams in the championships – football and netball.

Tarimba said they would provide the teams with sports equipment like jerseys, balls, socks and bibs, noting that as a sports betting firm their aim was to develop the sports sector in Tanzania. This was especially so for soccer and that is why they are sponsoring some Mainland Premier League teams like Young Africans SC, Simba SC and Singida United FC.

He affirmed that they would also provide tracksuits to 160 sporting members of Parliament featuring in teams in the competition today.

Tarimba said the teams would today parade from the PTA Hall to the National Stadium for the opening ceremony.

William Ngeleja, the chairman of Bunge Sports Club, thanked SportPesa Tanzania Limited for invaluable support in providing sports equipment to the teams.

Games to be competed for are tug of war, football, volleyball, athletics and netball.

The games will involve MPs from East African countries including Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda and Burundi.
