Tanga NGO embarks on plans to protect, boost tourist sector

A non-governmental organization known as Tanga Cultural and Tourism Involvement Coalition (TACTIC) has embarked on strategies of conservation and promotion of tourism attractions in Tanga region.

Tanga region is one of the regions which have numerous untapped tourism resources, and the NGO is determined to make sure that the resources and tourist attraction centers are well known to local and international communities.

Speaking to the Guardian here the executive secretary of TACTIC Laurent Herman said that they have decided to embark on the tourist sector so that they could cultural and heritage tourism in the region.

According to Laurent Tanga is a potential region for tourism sector but unfortunately its attractions were not well known thus denying the region of a lot of money that was supposed to flow in through the sector.

“Tanga is a blessed region with many tourist attractions, however they lack someone to promote them. Since they aren’t promoted they say there idle and eve also even the local community don’t benefit from them. But through this program things are going to change,” he said.

He further said that Tanga region needed to make extra efforts to promote its tourist attractions and that the Coalition has decided to take up the responsibility by initiating this program with collaboration with other stakeholders.

He said there is no country which benefited from the tourism sector without first taking an initiative of promoting its attractions and Tanzania starting with regions promotion ha also a good chance of doing better in the sector than the present situation.

He pointed out some areas which he considered as attractions to tourists as including old German buildings with unique style, Amboni caves and hotwater spings.

Others are historical sites in Pangani and Lushoto and traditional ngomas that would be portrayed by organizing annual festivals.
