Burundi champions Atletico Olympique, who laboured through road transport all the way from Bujumbura, have ended their Group C matches with unbeaten run to haul seven points.

The team is currently leading the group and only Rwanda champions APR have an opportunity to dislodge them from the pilot seat on condition of winning their final group game against holders Yanga this afternoon.

 Atletico shocked fans of the host nation after superbly edging a surprise but deserving 2-0 comprehensive victory over title holders Yanga during the tournament opener last Saturday.

 The Burundi champs held off pressure from APR during their second Group C match that ended in barren draw on Tuesday.

Atletico hammered South Sudan’s El Salaam Wau by five goals during their yesterday’s match played at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

The Burundi champs, who have been playing super soccer with intricate passes to win hearts of soccer fans in Dar es Salaam, look to be the tournament’s surprise package the way Uganda’s Bunamwaya was in the previous edition also hosted in Dar.

 Only APR and Atletico have a huge possibility to finish as Group C winners while Yanga have a ceiling of six points depending on their result against APR today.

Yanga have therefore an opportunity to finish as second in the group or third.

Yanga have to meet either Group B runners-up or winners from Group A depending on the result of today’s outcome against APR.
