Assistant Commissioner of Police, Johansen Kahatano

Traders and individual car owners have been urged to purchase quality and durable tyres which match with the East African conditions in order to save much life that is wasted on the roads.

This was said on Saturday by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Johansen Kahatano in Dar es Salaam at the launch of a new Michelin tyre, Energy XM2 whereby he assured the excellence of the product for traffic approval.

Kahatano said that researches done by traffic police on a number of accidents that have occurred in the country have found out that the low quality of tyres used is one of the major causes. “It would be much better for the wholesalers to purchase quality products especially car tyres for the customers’ safety, to be honest it’s the only way to reduce rising deaths from accident caused by tyre busts,” ACP Kahatano stressed.

For his part, Michelin Regional Manager Freddi Stoeffler said Energy XM2 tyres have been designed to weather the conditions of East Africa which has hot climate and rough roads.

He added that, “the tyres are made from the highest quality and modern material, and resist damages, and have optimised stress distribution on the roads.”

However, he said that the company distributes more than 3000 tyres annually in Tanzania and about 20,000 in East Africa.
