Poor packaging has been cited as one of the factors which causes most small entrepreneurs fail to compete in international markets.
According to the Tanzania Bureau of Standards Head of Packaging Technology Centre Cunbert Kapilima small entrepreneurs have been focusing on improving quality of their products without addressing packaging, which he said was among the criteria determining the quality of products.
Kapilima told The Guardian yesterday at the 36th exhibition at Sabasaba grounds that packaging was important to ensure the quality products.
He said TBS intends to educate small entrepreneurs during the exhibition on the importance of better packaging of their products to allow them to sell more internally and abroad.
Kapilima said TBS was not only dealing with standards but also to sensitising small businesses to visit the packaging centre introduced by organisation since 2008 to help them.
“We call upon them to visit our pavilion and get education about packaging, because in standards packaging is critical for the safety of products and users,” he said
He noted that some of products expire before the indicated date due to the problem of packaging.
The Public Relations Officer Rhoida Andusamile said TBS
will give training to entrepreneurs on product quality and packaging using funds provided by the European Union.
