The Tanzania Olympics Committee (TOC) still awaits confirmation of athletics duo of Faustin Mussa and Msenduki Mohamed from the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) in connection with their eligibility to London Olympics.
The duo are said to have attained the Olympic Games qualifying time after competing in the just ended marathons staged in Norway and Netherlands. The events are said to have been sanctioned by IAAF.
TOC secretary general Filbert Bayi said his committee hesitates to call the duo for camping as they have not been informed by IAAF.
Bayi said his committee has written to IAAF to seek confirmation report but so far the international body has yet to respond.
“It will be useless to call the two to camp now, we have to wait for the IAAF clarification and then we will see what to do”, he said.
The TOC boss also said the departure reservations for Dar athletes and join the Bradford College in England will depend on the number of athletes who qualifies for the Games.
Currently the TOC official the Tanzania team has four athletes earmarked for the London Games that includes two marathoners, one boxer and a swimmer.
Initially, Bayi said TOC wanted the athletes to leave the country on June 5but the dates may be pushed back depending on the IAAF recommendation on the athletic duo.
In another development, Bayi said two TOC officials who attended London Olympic Games Pre Delegation Registration Meeting (PreDRM) in South Africa held at the end of last month returned last Friday.
He named the two officials as Charles Nyenge and TOC executive member who will also be the country’s chief de mission to the London Games, Hassani Jalafu.
Bayi said while in South Africa the officials learnt on how to handle the athletes while in UK and other related protocols.
