Athletics Tanzania (AT) secretary general Suleiman Nyambui has drawn a rare optimism over the expected performance of athletes ahead of continental show in Nairobi later this month.
Nyambui said he is confident that the athletic team would sparkle in Kenya and medal haul is to some extent a sure event.
The championship that starts on July 23 through August at Nyayo Stadium would attract high profile athletes from all over the continent.
The AT secretary general said his association is doing every thing possible to help athletes perform well.
He could not say the number of athletes who will make the trip while waiting for the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) to unveil the team’s quota.
The IAAF would foot some of the bills of the athletes to be selected by AT ahead of the Nairobi showdown.
The AT official said the previous postponement of the event has come as a blessing in disguise to provide more time for training of would be participants.
The event was earlier scheduled to take off on April 28 through May but suffered postponement in favour of the new dates.
The reason behind the pushing back of the event was based on the fact that Moi International Sports Center venue was later ruled out to be inadequate to host the show.
The Dar athletes would also take the Nairobi event as a stage to sharpen their skills ahead of the October Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.
Frequent athletes’ failure has been observed in the past to highlight a drastic fall of the sport in the country.
The AT is at the centre stage of criticism as the country has been missing medals at international stages, Olympics being highly conspicuous.
