Six clubs are expected to battle it out in the Union championship to be staged at the International School of Tanganyika pools on Monday.

Three clubs each from Mainland and Zanzibar will compete in the event where selectors will be busy to pick outstanding swimmers to join the national team.

Tanzania Swimming Association’s secretary general (TSA) Noel Kiunsi said Mainland clubs were selected after successful performance in last week’s event held in Dar es Salaam.

Mainland clubs that won the representation in the next week’s show include the University of Dar es Salaam, Tallis and JKT.

Clubs from Zanzibar are yet to be known.

Kiunsi said only competent swimmers would be selected to join the Union national team for further drilling in readiness for international events next year.

Meanwhile, the TSA secretary said the date for the body’s general elections would be announced at the end of the Union championship next week.

He called for interested people wishing to aspire for various posts of the swimming body to stay alert on the election date.

Posts to be competed for in the elections include the president, vice president, secretary general and his/her assistant, treasurers and assistant and two other posts of executive committee members.
