


Zanzibar netball association (CHANEZA) yesterday unveiled the names of provisional netball players making the national teams for both men and women ahead of All Africa Games to be staged in Mozambique later in September.
Chaneza’s acting secretary general Rahima Bakari said the players have been selected on the basis of merit by the special selection panel that convened here over the weekend.
However, Bakari said players will be timed to the required figure at the end of the preparation on June 25.
The netball official said her association needs to raise 36m/- to cater for the camping of the teams. Players are expected to be camped in Zanzibar.
National teams from the East African region are expected to convene in Kampala later this month to stage a tournament as they gear up for the Games in Mozambique.
Besides the regional teams, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Botswana, Zambia and South Africa teams have also been extended an invitation for the Kampala showdown.
The provisional women netball players making the team as released by Chaneza include Zainab Shaib (GA), Pili Peter (GC), Miza Nyange (C) and Magreth Constantine (GK) all from JKU, Mwanahamisi Said (C), Theodora Boniface (GD), Mwajuma Hamad (GK) , Mwanaidi Hassan (GS), Evodia Gazija (C), Doritha Mbunda (GK) and Sekela Dominic (WD) from JKT.
Players from Jeshi Stars are Agnes Simkonda (GA), Veronica Patric (C) Mpala Idd (WD), Faraja Malaki (C), Napael Kassi and Doritha Mbunda.
Police team has Nyirabu Maxmilian (GS) as Sylidion (GK), Grine Elias, (GS), Restituta Boniface (GK), Pastakaria Kibayasa (WD) are from State House.
Zuhura Talib (GS) adds to the team from Tanzania Prisons.
Men players selected to the team are Abbas Muhidini (GS), Muhidini Mussa (C), Said Ali (WD), Ramadhani Zimbwe (GK) and Yussuf Uwesu (GK) all from Police Zanzibar.
Others are Said Khamisi (GS), Yahya Anania (GS), Abdulwahidi Khamis (GD) and Abdullah Mohammed (C) from JKU Zanzibar.
The list goes on to Haleluya Kavalambi (GA) Jeshi Stars), JKT duo of Simkoko (GK) and Francis Mliwa (GK).
Tanzania Prisons duo named for the team are Kisoki (GD) and Said Maganga.
Bakari said the players were supposed to start camping at the end of last month but shortage of funds has delayed it.
However, the Government has pledged to assist preparations of the team while other sponsors are being sought.
The players have been selected on the basis of their performance during the East African championship held here early this year.
