Twiga Stars international friendly against Zimbabwe that was supposed to be played at the National Stadium tomorrow has been cancelled.
The Tanzania Football Federation’s information officer Boniface Wambura said through his release availed yesterday that it was the Zimbabweans who initiated the eleventh-hour cancellation.
Zimbabwe football association officials (ZIFA) are the ones who requested for the friendly tie in an effort to gauge their team ahead of the Africa Women Championship qualifiers set for next month.
Instead of taking the trouble to travel all the way to Dar es Salaam to honour the friendly tie, Zimbabwe women soccer team would now stay at home as they wait for another friendly international tie of similar magnitude against Zambia tomorrow.
Twiga Stars are still undergoing training sessions at their Ruvu National Service Camp in Coast region under their coach Charles Boniface.
However, the Tanzania Football federation is working round the clock to search for another friendly for the team.
Stars play the first leg qualifier tie against Ethiopia on May 26 in Addis Ababa.
The women national team is bidding to make a second appearance in the continent’s premier soccer showpiece after their debut appearance in South Africa in 2010.
The AWC finals will be the eight to be staged as Equatorial Guinea are the tournament hosts.
