Transport services for upcountry passengers are bound to be paralyzed if the Tanzania Bus Owners Association (TABOA) goes into action after it issued a strike warning.

TABOA is considering strike action for demands which the government said it would resolve more than one year ago, says TABOA Secretary General Enea Mrutu, said an executive committee meeting reached the strike decision to press for their demands.

“That is the only solution to get our problems solved,” he said, without specifying when such action could start, blaming senior government officials for inaction on their demands.

He said TABOA members had the right to defend their interests when “implementers turn a blind eye to their most crucial problems hampering their daily operation.”

The issues were listed in meeting with government officials after a strike early May 2011 where city bus operators and upcountry transport users of the Ubungo terminal participated.
