University students in Dodoma have called on CCM youthful members of parliament to fight corruption vigorously in their various roles, especially as representatives in the top law-making body.

The call was made on Wednesday evening at a short function to congratulate young CCM lawmakers who won various parliamentary seats in the October 31 general election.

Speaking on behalf of other university students, Kwagilah Nhamanilo described corruption as a menace to all the people, challenging the CCM youthful MPs to fight the vice even if those linked to it were ruling party lawmakers or government officials.

“The vice has to be fought by all means,” he stressed.

He also called on the MPs to move an independent motion on problems associated with availability of loans for students in higher learning institutions.

In response, Mtama CCM MP Bernard Membe, who graced the event, said the government was aware of the loans problem, promising that President Jakaya Kikwete would end the matter as he had promised during campaigns ahead of last month’s polls.

“We don’t want to give room to the opposition to take advantage of the problem. We shall end it soon,” he stressed.
