Mwanza Regional Commissioner (RC) Evarist Ndikilo has ordered the police to arrest Ilemela District Chama cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (Chadema) Secretary Abel Mwesa and bring him to justice for allegedly cutting off an ear of a guest house attendant.
Lazaro Nolbert (25) had his ear removed allegedly by Mwesa after refusing to give him a room at the guest house.
The RC had to intervene after Nolbert complained to him that although he reported the matter to Mwatex Police Station about three weeks ago and given a police report No. NY/RB/3059/2012, they had refused to bring his assailant to justice.
Speaking to reporters in Mwanza yesterday, the RC said Nolbert was allegedly assaulted on April 26, this year, at 23:00 after refusing to give Mwesa a room at Amani Guest House because the person responsible for doing so was not present.
Ndikilo said Mwesa was accompanied by another person they suspected to be his girlfriend and was offended by Nolbert’s response.
He said after a long exchange of words, the Chadema secretary made a call and a few minutes later two young people joined him and started assaulting Nolbert before Mwesa bit Nolbert's ear.
Nolbert, who also attended the press conference, said he was still undergoing treatment at Bugando Referral Hospital.
He said the police had been forcing him to accept 200,000/- as compensation offered to him by Mwesa, who is also Nyambiti hamlet chairman.
Speaking at the same press conference, Mwanza Acting Regional Police Commander Deusdedit Nsimeke said he was not aware of the incident but promised to make a follow-up and take legal action against the culprits.
