Interested residents of Dar es Salaam and its environs will be able to undergo free cancer screening tomorrow at the Regency Hotel in Upanga suburb.

The screening will be conducted by a cancer specialist from India, Dr PS Sridhar who is expected in the country later today.   The screening will last for two days.

A statement released by the Regency Medical Centre said the specialist will conduct a screening process for various types of cancers.

The statement said the specialist comes from HCG Group in the city of Bangalore, the largest cancer centre in South Asia.

“Please bring all your previous medical reports and recent X-rays to the screening camp at RMC,” the statement read in part.

This is a good opportunity for Tanzanians with such problems to come and see the specialist to get advice on what advanced treatment they need, it said.

It also underlined that the event will be a good opportunity for patients treated in India to obtain expert follow up at the doorstep of expatriate physicians right at home.

This will save costs of traveling to India if a follow up was needed, the statement noted.

Dr Kanabar said that HCG Group is collaborating with Regency Medical Center to help Tanzanians with cancer problems needing to go to India for the treatment to obtain treatment there at affordable rates.

He said RMC has started follow up chemotherapy for patients treated in India in DSM to avoid expensive prolonged stay of Tanzanians for chemotherapy in India.
