Young Africans (Yanga) will start campaigning to defend their Kagame Cup title on July 14 when the regional tournament kicks off in Dar es Salaam.

The Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) president Leodegar Tenga said yesterday that the championship will climax on July 29 and attract 12 teams from member countries.

Tenga who is also the president of the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) said they had delayed to announce the kick off date because of lack of sponsors.

“Although we do not have sponsors, the tournament must go on,” he maintained, adding that the council was still be looking for sponsors. On his part Cecafa Secretary-General Nicolas Musonye said eight clubs from non-Cecafa member countries had applied to compete in the championship.

Musonye named them as Vital'O from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Power Dynamo (Zimbabwe) and two South African sides, Dlomomfintein and Platinum.

He said that Cecafa would ask the management of Azam Complex to use their ground in some of the games.

Tanzania Mainland will also be represented by premier League champions Simba and Azam FC.
