Communication, Science and Technology deputy minister January Makamba has said he was appointed to the post due to his ability and diligence that he exhibited when he was chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Minerals.
Makamba, who is also the legislator for Bumbuli constituency, was addressing a public rally at Soni, in Lushoto district, where voters turned out in droves to welcome him after being appointed by President Kikwete to the new post.
He said his appointment was not a favour but a deserved one due to his ability he had shown which impressed the president.
“If President Kikwete had appointed me earlier soon after being an MP people would have thought that I had been favored… but now everybody has seen my ability when I was chairman of the Energy and Minerals committee… I worked hard and led the committee successfully,” he said.
He thanked President Kikwete for giving him an opportunity to serve Tanzanians and pledged to work even harder in carrying out his new responsibilities.
He urged the residents of Bumbuli constituency to work hard and pray for the country's peace and tranquillity to prevail.
He promised he would fight to ensure one day Bumbuli attained council status so it could speed up the development of its people.
Makamba is in his constituency to inspect development projects.
