Mafunzo players (in green jerseys) in scramble for the ball with their Tusker counterparts during their Kagame Cup group B match played at the National Stadium in Dar es salaam yesterday. The match ended in barren draw

The Kagame Cup group B has been left wide open following another draw when Zanzibar champions Mafunzo and Kenya’s Tusker battled to a barren draw in a pulsating match played at the national Stadium in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

It was Mafunzo who had dominated the game particularly during the second half but lady luck would not smile for the Island prison wardens.

Tusker tried hard to penetrate the Mafunzo defence only to be disappointed by alter goalkeeper.

The result has left Mafunzo to lead the group with two points but qualification into the quarterfinal stages banks heavily on the outcome of tomorrow’s match when Azam meet Tusker in the final group game.

The entire three teams stand a chance of advancing as two top placed would play the quarterfinals kicking off on Monday.

Mafunzo had pulled a last-gasp 1-1 draw with Azam during their opening game played at the Chamazi Stadium last Sunday.

During yesterday’s game Mafunzo skipper Suleiman Kassim was evergreen upfront but Tusker towering defender Shikokoti stood to thwart all menacing moves.

Azam and Tusker both have to avoid a defeat as either side might be knocked out of the tourney.

This is a tricky tie as fans are still waiting to se what will happen should Azam and Tusker draw 1-1. Azam and Tusker are in must win situation and the loser is to face the exit door. A 2-2- draw would kick out Mafunzo and a 1-1 result is to give a nerve-jangling headache to the tournament organizers as which team should be bundled out between Mafunzo and Tusker.
