Rehabilitation of a 1.1-kilometre road to tarmac level at a cost of 670m/- from Coast regional headquarters to Maili Moja area in Kibaha will be completed in June this year, instead of this month, it has been learnt.

Tanzania National Roads Agency (Tanroads) manager in the region, Tumaini Sarakikya, said however that, the project which was earlier planned to be completed this month, will be finalised in June, this year.

He said completion of the project had been delayed due to long seasonal rains which have caused water to accumulate at the construction site.

Sarakikya said rehabilitation was being done by a local contractor, Kifuko Furniture and Contractors, since last October.

Meanwhile, the regional Tanroads manager said that the agency would rehabilitate buffer walls at Kazimzumbwi Bridge in Kisarawe district after it was discovered that the wall had been worn out.

The bridge’s walls, built last year on a road stretch between Pugu Kajiungeni and Vikumburu at a cost of 138,709,261/-, were found to be slowly wearing out few months after the completion.

Sarakikya said that the agency would have to repair the walls at a small cost after the period of retention was over. “Almost one year has passed since the contractor complete the project. So, it will be up to us to repair it,” he said.

The Tanroads regional boss informed that the agency had started repairing some roads in the region, especially those damaged by flooding caused by seasonal rains.
