Tanzanian athletes have been locked out of the Continental Youth Games that gets underway in Moroccan capital Rabat early next week.

Amateur boxers, swimmers and runners altogether have no means of traveling to feature for the championship after their respective associations have run short of funds.

In separate interviews officials of the Boxing Federation of Tanzania (BFT), Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) and Athletic Tanzania (AT) said they have failed to secure funds enough to send their athletes.

BFT secretary Mashaga Makore said the association would have needed in excess of 15m/- to send ten youth boxers to the tournament.

Mashaga said his association has completely failed to get some funds for the show. Efforts to seek Government assistance also hit snag.

The BFT official said it would have been useful to send young boxers as a build up to gear for the New Delhi Commonwealth Games.

Athletics Tanzania (AT) secretary general Suleiman Nyambui said his association could have been happy to make use of the continental games but shortage of funds has halted their otherwise bonafide intention.

Tanzania Swimming Association secretary general Noel Kiunsi had no different comment in connection with the missing of the Morocco Games.

Beside the Commonwealth Games, Kiunsi said swimmers would have been used the opportunity ahead of the Singapore Youth Commonwealth Games later this year.
