The Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court yesterday adjourned to July this year the case of possessing prohibited items in jail facing former Bank of Tanzania (BoT) personnel and administration director Amatus Liyumba (63).
Liyumba allegedly committed the offence while in prison. Prosecution told the court that the accused was found with a cell phone installed in it a subscriber identity module (SIM) card number 0653-004662 and an identification security (IMEI) code 356273/04/276170/3.
The case was adjourned by resident magistrate Devotha Kisoka because presiding magistrate Stewart Sanga was sick.
Adjourning the case, Kisoka said it would come up for another mention on June 1 and the hearing of the case will continue on July 2.
According to the charge sheet, the accused brought in Ukonga Prison in Ilala, Dar es Salaam, a mobile phone on July 27, last year, contrary to applicable law and prison regulations.
Liyumba was jailed for two years last year after the same court found him guilty of abuse of office and occasioning the loss of public funds amounting to 221bn/-.
