Corporal Paulo Laurent from the Tanzania Peoples’ Defense Forces (TPDF) yesterday appeared before Morogoro resident Magistrate’s Court to answer charges of killing five people.
Reading the charge sheet before Magistrate Seraphine Nsana, inspector of police Anganile Nsiani, alleged that the accused, using a sub-machine gun (SMG) opened fire, killing five people.
Nsiani read out the names of those killed as Sanyiwa Ndahya (28), Ngelembende Lukeresha(26),Kashindye Msheshiwa (35), Kulwa Luhende, and Lutala Ndahya(45), all farmers at Maguba area, Kiwale Village, Malinyi ward, in Ulanga district, Morogoro Region).
According to the charge sheet, the killings happened on 17 March 2012.
The accused was not allowed to enter a plea on the charges, because the court has no jurisdiction to hear the case.
The accused was remanded until the second mention of the case on April 11 this year, pending further investigation.
The case attracted a big number of people in Morogoro Municipality where the accused once worked as militia adviser for Morogoro district.
