Yanga hit bottom placed Villa Squad 1-0 in a Vodacom Premier League match at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

This is the second win in a row for the defending champions after the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) banned five of their key players for causing chaos in their match against Azam FC last Saturday.

The win brought Yanga to 43 points and momentarily displaced Azam FC at second spot as they have 41 points and have a match later today.

The goal was scored by Ugandan striker Hamisi Kiiza one minute before the final whistle when he connected a Haruna Niyonzima cross.

Villa Squad who defeated Simba 1-0 while they were only ten players, complained about the goal claiming that an offence was committed before the ball entered the net.

Yanga defeated African Lyon with the same margin without the banned players. The banned players are Jerryson Tegete (six months), Stephano Mwasika (one year), Nurdin Bakari and Omega Seme (to miss three matches each).

Villa Squad coach Habib Kondo claimed that the referee contributed to his team’s defeat as the scorer snatched the ball from the hands of their goalie Daudi Mwasonga.

Yanga coach Kostadin Papic said he was happy with the win.
