Preparations for the three-day FIA-funded motor sport seminar scheduled to be staged in Tanga from June 20 are complete, the Automobile Association of Tanzania’s chief executive officer Yusuf Ghor has confirmed.

Ghor said participants are required to arrive in Tanga on Wednesday June 20 for registration and other formalities ahead of the event the day after.

A total of 57 participants that include police officers, motor sports stewards, orgnanisers, media members and other top motor sports officials are lined up for the seminar.

The seminar dubbed to be comprehensive in terms of safety measures aimed at curbing accidents and reducing fatalities during motor sport will cover various topics including practical lessons.

Participants have been booked at the Tanga beach Resort hotel with full board accommodation courtesy of FIA.

Ghor said this time the seminar has been focused to provide lessons for the actual stakeholders of motor sport.

Instructors of the seminars will fly in few days ahead of the event and are coming from FIA institute.

The AAT president Nizar Jivani, a former competent motor rally driver who has won numerous events and an ardent motor sport fanatic will open the seminar on Thursday Jume 21.

Mayor of Tanga municipality Omar Guledi will be the chief guest during the closing ceremony on Friday and he will be responsible to present certificates to the participants.

A British army officer, captain airborne forces Angus Duthie is one of the FIA trusted official expected to be an instructor during the seminar.

 He is a responsible and trustworthy hands-on manager, with proven experience within the security industry in business development, consulting, general management and administration in the environments of the UAE, Hong Kong and in the British Army.

A meticulous co-ordinator, communicating well at all levels and demonstrating a consistent and effective approach to attaining targeted objectives.

Rally marshals training module

Will be under trainer Charles Reynolds, an experienced company director and general manager specialising in motor sports and currently working as a consultant to the organisers and manufacturer teams involved in the FIA World Rally Championship.

His career spans 40 years within the motor industry working either directly for motor manufacturers or their motor sports operations.

In recent years his experience has been focused on World Championship rallying where he has been part of the powerhouse for a range of cost cutting measures and changes designed to increase global media awareness.

Timekeeping trainer is Ronan Morgan

who is a professional rally co-driver for 18 years and winner of 10 FIA Middle East Rally Championships. He is the current Motor sport Director of the Automobile Association of the UAE.

Morgan has acted as an FIA observer and steward at numerous FIA rally events over a 15 year period, is a member of the FIA Cross Country Rally Commission and represents ATCUAE on the FIA Rally and WRC Commissions.

Prior to joining the ATCUAE Morgan was Project Director of Wales Rally GB, the UK round of the WRC 2001-2004 and then promoter of Rally Ireland WRC from 2004 to 2008.

Morgan was Clerk of the Course for Formula 1™ Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, GP2, Australian V8 Supercar and FIA GT1 races during 2009, 2010 and 2011 seasons.

The seminar is being held in Tanga for the second year running as AAT has won huge trustworthiness from FIA that has never hesitated to dish out funds to stage another seminar.

However, this year’s seminar will involve the actual stakeholders in the motor sport industry.

The seminar is in line with the United Nations decade for motor sports safety improvement aiming to minimize deaths and injuries resulting from motor sport activities.

Top ranking traffic police officers will be invited to attend the seminar and a section of motorists in Tanga will also be involved.

Ghor said invitation letters have been dispatch3d to all those who will participate in the seminar.

Tanzania is among the leading countries in the continent that has low number of accidents arising from motor sport activities. Almost a single digit number of people have lost their lives through motor sport activities in Tanzania, a record lowest number in the continent.
