Villagers in Dodoma region have been advised to expose illegal immigrants living in their areas.
Dodoma regional immigration commissioner Proches Kuoko issued the advice during training on civic education identification held at Iyumbu village, which is located few kilometers from Dodoma central business district.
He acknowledged that most rural dwellers were not fully informed on civic matters as well as identifying illegal immigrants.
Contributing to the discussion, Yohana Mezengo, Elizabeth Mathayo and John Yona said people in rural areas were not well informed on how to identify and report illegal immigrants.
They argued that lack of information for identifying illegal immigrants contributed to almost non-cooperation to the immigration department from the villagers.
“To tell the truth, people who live in rural areas see aliens passing here and there, but they lack the courage to question them because they don't know about the laws. This kind of education enlightens them on issue," said one of them.
Kouko called on the people to shun taking bribes from aliens in exchange for giving them ‘safe heavens’, reminding that doing so was illegal.
Moreover, he said that the education being given was going to be sustainable in the region; and that so far similar seminars have been conducted in eleven wards out of 37 in the municipality.
