Permanent secretary in the Ministry of Finance Ramadhan Khijjah

Permanent secretary in the Ministry of Finance Ramadhan Khijjah has said the government financial situation is critical as many donors have failed to fulfil their promises as agreed with the government.

Khijjah clarified financial situation, when he met the Parliamentary Accounts Committee (PAC) at the weekend, stressing that the government had already spent some funds on development projects hoping that once the donors brought in funds, they would replace them with the money spent.

PAC has blamed the government for overspending and misusing public funds to the extent of planning to prepare a law to ban it from approving funds for its expenditure before being endorsed by the parliament.

But Khijjah said all the funds that were being spent by the government were spent in good faith and no single coin had been misused contrary to government plans.
