After missing to field sufficient number of swimmers in the London Olympics, the Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) has shifted its attention to the forthcoming Africa senior championship to be staged in Nairobi later in September.

The TSA technical director Marcelino Ngalioma said a two-day national swimming championship starting next Saturday at HOPAC in Dar es Salaam is one of the events too gear up for Nairobi.

Ngalioma said the selected swimmers will join a camp at the beginning of July to train for the championship. However, he declined to locate the camp as well as the coaches to undertake the task.

Dar swimmers performed poorly in the continent’s zone three and four championship staged in Maputo as the team returned heads down.

“We have used the Maputo event as a base for preparations while we hope to send a big team in Nairobi owing to proximity and affordability. We have the national championships later next week at HOPAC and where we expect to pick players for the training camp”, he said.

Meanwhile a five-day coaching course for beginners to be sanctioned by FINA is expected to be conducted in Dar es Salaam next month.

FINA top instructor Gerd Nottelman from German will be in charge of the program that starts on June 4 at the International School of Tanganyika (IST), so says Ngalioma.

He also said three days later, the German instructor will conduct a beginner’s officials course at the same venue for three days.

He said TSA encourages School teachers, pool lifeguards and club coaches to apply to participate while observing the May 15 submission deadline.

The technical director also said as one way of assuring the country has formidable swimming team, TSA in conjunction with FINA will organize a training camp for 25 days starting on July 2.

A top a Canadian FINA coach Danilov will be in charge of the training.
