The Africa Netball Association appointed Malawi to host the next year’s edition of continental championship, vice chairman of the association Joel Mwakitale has confirmed.
Mwakitale said his committee members met last week and agreed that Malawi should host the event while Botswana and Zambia will host in 2013 and 2014, respectively.
He said the committee in September 2010 agreed to make the netball championship an annual event to increase its popularity in African countries.
“We have agreed that Malawi should host next year’s event, Botswana and Zambia will host in subsequent years, our aim is to see netball reaches many people in all parts of the continent”, he said.
Netball Association of Malawi’s President Rosy Chinunda confirmed that the African Netball Association has selected her country as next year’s championship host. She said her country feel honored to be given the task of organising the third edition of the championship.
Chinunda said she will meet her Malawi Government officials and the corporate world to inform them on the development.
“We have been given the task to host the event next year, to us it’s the big honor”, she said.
The Africa Netball Championship started in 2010 with the aim of improving and promoting netball in African countries and since its inception ten countries have been competing.
