Netball association of Tanzania, CHANETA, has announced to close registration of teams intending to feature in the inaugural international championship to be staged in Dar es Salaam on September 28 through October 3.

Chaneta’s chairperson Anna Bay said no more countries would be accommodated in the tourney to be played at the National Stadium.

The next move for Chaneta is to reserve accommodation for the teams as only one month is left before the event gets underway.

She pressed hard for well wishers to extend cooperation in meeting the cost of staging the championship, accommodation being the top priority expenditure.

Bayi acknowledged the fact that Zanzibar netball association, Chaneza, has officially communicated to them expressing their pullout decision.

Chaneta and Chaneza have been embroiled in a series of misunderstandings almost for a year now with each side blaming the other for poor cooperation.

Bayi said Chaneza letter did not disclose the reason behind their non-participation in the tournament that highlights a big rift between the two netball authorities in the country.

Chaneza leadership claims Chaneta has not extended cooperation at full length from initial stages of organising the international tournament and Bayi has been allegedly accused of weakening the cooperation.

Bayi named the countries that have confirmed participation as Zambia, Lesotho, Kenya,Uganda, Swaziland, Namibia Ireland, South Africa, Botswana, Seychelles and the hosts.

While Chaneta is engaged in organising the tournament, Mainland netball team is camped at the Filbert Bayi secondary school attending training sessions to gear up for the tourney under the tutelage of coach Mary Protas.

However, Chaneta says efforts to play international friendlies have always been frustrated as there has been a poor response.

In a related development, Bayi said she is still waiting for a response from the International Federation for Netball Associations, FINA, regarding the request of a netball coach.

Should the coach be available he or she will work with a hand-in-glove cooperation with the local coach, Protas.
