Mainland flag bearers in the CAF Confederations Cup league Simba, have booked a last 16 encounter against a Sudanese side by the name of Al Ahly Shandy later this month.

The Sudanese club eliminated Mozambique’s

Ferroviario de Maputo by 3-0 goals aggregate with a 2-0 first leg win in Khartoum a fortnight ago.

Shandy and Ferroviario played their return leg on Sunday evening in Maputo and the Sudanese side emerged winners with a slim lone goal victory to sail through.

Simba cruised into the last 16 miraculously after a 3-1 goal thrashing by Es Setif but thank to the first leg 2-0 victory at home and the bonus goal on away soil through striker Emmanuel Okwi deep into stoppage time.

Simba had breezed past Rwanda side Kiyovu Sport by 3-2 goals aggregate last month ahead of playing the Algerian side.

The first leg match between Simba and Shandy will be played at the national Stadium on the weekend falling on April 27-29 before the return leg tie to be hosted by the Sudanese club.

Winners of the two legs would cruise into the last eight of the Confederations league that has eight teams divided into two groups.

The Mainland premiership pace makers are the only side remaining in continental league after elimination of three other teams namely Young Africans, Mafunzo and Jamhuri.

Simba reached the CAF Cup final in 1993 only to lose the return leg before their home supporters to Cote d’Ivoire’s Stella Abidjan in the club’s biggest ever football shock.
