Zanzibar NCCR-Mageuzi presidential candidate Haji Ambar Khamis has said if elected he will reduce the number of cabinet ministers to eight.
He said doing so will save money to be used in development and social activities, adding that having 13 ministers with four deputies added to government running costs.
Addressing a campaign rally at Nyarugusu grounds in Unguja North district yesterday, Ambar said the cabinet will have four ministers each from Pemba and Unguja.
Ambar said social services like clean and safe water, health and education have deteriorated while according to the constitution the services are the basic rights of the people.
He said his government will give priority to ending water woes and easy availability of treatment contrary to the way the situation is now.
“Ministry of Labour, Youth Development, Women and Children, will be a department dealing with such matters under the second vice president,” he noted.
He said he was saddened by the fact that the said ministry was currently dealing with divorce issues only while there were many groups of youth without employment.
He said Zanzibar under NCCR- Mageuzi will have a special board to monitor labour issues including wage levels and labour contracts.
“The investment sector currently is facing a problem of people being dismissed without following formal procedure and also having contracts signed poorly to investors,” he said.
Earlier NCCR-Mageuzi Union presidential running mate Ali Omar Juma asked wananchi to vote for his party to enable it bring changes in the mainland and Zanzibar.
He said he will call for a referendum for people to choose the kind of Union system they want.
He said the currently union system has no economic benefit to the people.
