The government has been asked to provide Lindi Regional Hospital, Sokoine, with an X-ray machine to help the health facility operate efficiently.

Speaking to this reporter at the hospital at the weekend, some patients Yusufu Mohamedi, Jack Said, Clara Kamfute and Mariamu Juma said lack of an X-ray machine at the hospital forced them to go to Ndanda Mission Hospital in Mtwara Region.

The X-ray machine at the hospital stopped working since November last year because of an electrical fault caused by power fluctuations.

They said there were many patients, who could not afford travelling 65 kilometres to look for the X-ray service because the fare was just too much for them.

They asked the government to provide them with a new machine or repair the old one.

The technician, who runs the X-ray machine at the hospital, Davis Maganga, said it stopped working since last November because of an electrical fault.

He explained that he was now carrying out duties, which were not in line with what he studied.

Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr Edgar Mlawa admitted that they have had no X-ray service at the hospital for the past six months something that forced the patients to travel to Ndanda Mission Hospital in Masasi District, Mtwara Region. He explained that those, who did not manage to pay bus fares failed to get any X-ray service.
