Mwanza and Dodoma regional commissioners Evarest Andikilo and Rehema Nchimbi have hailed the Tanzania Breweries for staging the Uhuru flag relay races that started yesterday.

Athletics Tanzania (AT) secretary general Suleiman Nyambui said the commissioners have given a thumbs up of the event which is staged as part of celebrating 50 years anniversary of the Tanganyika Independence.

Nyambui said Mwanza region represents the Lake Zone where 30 athletes were flagged off yesterday morning and are carrying a yellow flag while those from Dodoma have a black flag.

Those running from Dar es Salaam carry a blue flag.

“The two regional commissioners have been excited and happy with the gesture shown by the brewers,” said Nyambui.

The four coloured athletes are expected to converge in Moshi ahead of scaling Mount Kilimanjaro.

Nyambui said the Mwanza athletes spent a night in Bunda yesterday and are expected to run to Karatu, Mto wa Mbu, Arusha and Moshi today.
