The Economic and Social Research Foundation (ESRF) will today launch its five-year (2012-2015) medium strategic plan, which will guide it to attain its goals-becoming a centre of excellence at national, regional and international levels.
According to an official statement issued by ESRF Executive Director Dr Hoseana Lunogelo in Dar es Salaam yesterday, the official launch of ESRF’s strategic plan will be graced by Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance Dr Servacius Likwelile and will be attended by various ESRF stakeholders.
The strategic plan, according to the statement, is expected to guide ESRF to attain its goal of becoming a regional and international centre of excellence in capacity building development for policy analysis, development management, policy research and policy dialogue.
“The strategic plan focuses on key thematic areas in line with the National Development Vision 2015, MKUKUTA II, MKUZA II and the five-year development plan,” said the director.
He noted that through research, ESRF would focus on growth and wealth creation, social services, social protection and quality of life, natural resources and environmental management, governance and accountability and globalisation, trade and regional integration.
The strategy also aims at improving and broadening dissemination outreach by enabling the media to disseminate information to grassroots stakeholders thereby giving them a voice in economic management and social dispensation.
Dr Lunogelo explained that in its 18 years of operation, ESRF had contributed in strengthening capability for policy analysis and decision-making for articulation and enhancement of policy options for the government, the civil society, the private sector and the general public.
This has been done in collaboration with various stakeholders through research, capacity development, policy dialogues and commissioned studies.
“ESRF will continue publishing various research outputs and circulate them widely through print, electronic media and visual arts,” he said, adding “to effectively fulfil its mandate, the facility seeks to increase its human resource base and network with other institutions to boost its services as a result of opportunities in Tanzania.”
He explained from its 18 years of experience, a good foundation in research and capacity building, high levels of professionalism “with support from our stakeholders, we look forward to achieving our goal of excellence.”
ESRF is an independent policy research institution established to develop capacity in economic and social policy analysis and development management by conducting and disseminating results from social and economic policy research, facilitating policy dialogue and conducting training on policy analysis and development management.
