Giant killers Azam FC will be kicking off today’s Kagame Cup semifinal  tie as the tournament’s surprise package and probably have exceed expectations should they sail through to the Saturday final.
 
The ice-cream makers, who are looking forward to their fourth premiership season, are dreaming to reach their maiden Kagame Cup final at the expense of highly experienced DRC’s AS Vita.

Azam have a full home ground advantage though they don’t command a huge share of fans’ base in the country.

After eliminating record breaking six-time champions Simba, Azam have a case to prove to underline their credentials as formidable side at international stage by making a breakthrough to the final.

The team’s low-key start of the tournament that culminated to two draws at the preliminaries, posted their first shocking win over Simba in their third match.

Should Azam sail through the final berth, they will make an implied inspiration to holders Young Africans who will play their semifinal against APR at the same venue later in the evening.

However, it will be highly disappointing to domestic soccer fraternity should Azam efforts end at the heels of the DRC club in today’s semifinal after all the spade work in the quarterfinal.

Fans are not expecting Azam to throw overboard this rare opportunity with all advantages at their disposal after pulling the tournament’s biggest upset so far.

The fact that Azam remain as the only team with unbeaten run among the semifinalists, give them an edge above the rest and not surprising a title favourite tag.
