Five Tanzanian junior tennis players are expected to board a flight to Cairo on April 1 to compete in the continental championship.

The International Tennis Federation (ITF) sanctioned event starts two days after their expected arrival.

The flight would also include a coach Hassan Kasim who said the team has to dig deep in their pocket during the tournament duration.

ITF and the Confederation of Africa Tennis (ITF/CAT) TTA are footing most of the players’ bills.

The coach named players earmarked for the trip as Sara Bura, Emmanuel Nicodemus, John Njau, Tumaini Martin and Edna John

The coach bemoaned lack of funds as a stumbling block for the players to open a training camp to gear up for the event.

Every player is practicing on his or her own up to the departure day.

The Tanzania players will join other 20 players to form the East and Central Africa team at the tournament.

The coach said the players were selected based on their performance in the ITF /CAT East Africa junior championships held in Burundi last month.
