NBC to sponsor pilgrimage for Muslims to Mecca

National Bank of Commerce (NBC) is establishing a Muslim Hajj Account from which money that would be invested will be utilized to sponsor its clients for the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca.

The bank’s acting Head Yassir Masoud announced the plans on Wednesday in Dar es Salaam during the launch of a two and half month publicity campaign.

The bank is offering a fully paid round trip to Mecca for two this October. Inclusive in the package are flight tickets, accommodation and 500,000/- in cash.

The offer is extended to none Muslims as well with the option of selecting any other destination and maintains all other amenities of the package.

“Through the Islamic Hajj Account, our customers will invest their money and the bank will use it in accordance with Islamic Banking protocol…” he said.

Secretary General of National Muslim Council of Tanzania, Suleiman Lolila and Sheik Mussa Kundecha on behalf of all Muslims applauded the government who through NBC has facilitated for the establishment of Islamic banking accounts. Islamic banks charge no interest on borrowing. The bank has had a successful 45 year run, two of those offering Islamic Banking Services to its customers.

The campaign has been in effect since July 5th and will culminate in a grand draw to select the winners on the 13th of September later this year.
