Newly appointed Taifa Stars head coach Kim Poulsen yesterday unveiled a provisional squad of 25 players ahead of next month’s 2014 World Cup qualifier tie against Cote d’Ivoire in Abidjan.
Kim said the selection of players has been based on competence, skills and discipline and ruled out any chance of favouritism.
The full line-up of players and their respective clubs in bracket are as follows;
Goalkeepers: Juma Kaseja (Simba), Mwadini Ally (Azam) and Deogratius Munishi (Mtibwa Sugar).
Defenders are: Nassor Masoud, Shomari Kapombe, Juma Nyoso, Amir Maftah, Kelvin Yondani (Simba), Aggrey Morris Erasto Nyoni and Waziri Salum (Azam).
Midfielders are: Mwinyi Kazimoto, Jonas Mkude and Edward Christopher (Simba), Salum Abubakar and Mrisho Ngasa (Azam), Nurdin Bakari (Yanga), Shabani Nditi (Mtibwa Sugar), and Frank Domayo (JKT Ruvu U-20).
Strikers are: Mbwana Samata and Thomas Ulimwengu (TP Mazembe, Ramadhan Singano (Simba U-20), Simon Msuva (Moro United- U20), Haruna Moshi (Simba) and John Bocco (Azam).
Stars now relishes Tanzania Breweries sponsorship under their Kilimanjaro Beer brand would play a friendly tie against Malawi on May 26 at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam before travelling to Cote d’Ivoire for the June 2 first leg of the qualifiers.
Poulsen has called in the squad Simba’s midfielder Haruna Moshi who was offloaded from the team by his predecessor Jan Poulsen due to technical and disciplinary matters.
The coach has also called Azam striker Bocco who gave his back to the national team owing to fan’s boo at the National Stadium.
Omission in the squad includes Yanga’s central defender Nadir Haroub and Azam’s Abdi Kassim.
The coach also excluded European-based duo of Henry Joseph and Athumani Machupa. DC Motema Pembe’s Musa Mgosi, Shaaban Kado and Juma Dihile are also out of the squad.
Surprise inclusion include youngsters Waziri Salum, Christopher, Domayo, Singano, Simon Msuva and goalkeeper Munishi.
