Paul Matthysen has been unanimously elected to the post of the Tanzania Golf Union chairmanship at the end of the polls conducted at the TPC Moshi last Saturday.

Mattysen, who was promoted to the chairmanship post mid last year following the official resignation of chairman Dioniz Malinzi, won the confidence of the Tanzania Golf Union’s executive committee members.

Malinzi resigned to avoid a conflict of interest after being appointed to head the National Sports Council’s chairmanship by the minister for Information, Culture, Youth and Sports, Emmanuel Nchimbi.

Matthysen will be assisted by Foti Gwebe in his leadership panel as Gelase Rutachubirwa has retained his post as the Union’s treasurer.

Moshi Club’s Mohamed Sadik has also retained his post as honorary secretary while Arusha Gymkhana Club’s Richard Gomesh is the competition secretary. Lugalo’s Samwel Hagu is the new handicap secretary.

Meanwhile, Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club’s golf captain Joseph Tango said so far he has not been communicated in connection with the arrival of the body of golfer Sharad Salgar who died in Mumbai last Saturday.

Salgar (70) died in a Mumbai hospital on the day that shocked the entire Dar Gymkhana Cub members who closed the course in his honour.

Until his death Salgar was the director of Aluminum Africa and his body is expected to be flown back to Dar es Salaam for cremation. He is survived by a wife and several children.

Tango promised to give details of Salgar’s body return once he receives the communication.
