Eight countries have confirmed to compete at next month’s international netball championship to be staged in Dar es Salaam, the acting secretary general of the netball association (CHANETA) Rose Mkisi revealed yesterday.

The continental championship has been sanctioned by International Netball Federation (IFNA)

Mkisi said the closing date for team to submit applications for the tourney is at the end of the month while she remained optimistic ore would register.

So far missing in the line-up are South Africa, Botswana and Kenya. She named the countries which have confirmed to compete as Malawi, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Namibia, Zambia, Mozambique, Uganda and the host nation.

However, Mkisi downplayed fears that late confirmation would affect preparations of the event which she said are in the right track.

“The door is still wide open for countries to confirm participation at the tournament and its our hope that many countries will rush for eleventh hour registrations”, she said.

Underlining on the preparations for the tournament, she said every thing is going smoothly and that the national team players were released for the Easter holidays and expected to report back into the camp today.

She said the Zanzibar netball national team players has not yet joined camp at Kibaha, but officials of the team promised to release players and join the camp later this week.
