The National Executive Committee (NEC) of Chama Cha Mapinduzi NEC has established a special region for students of higher learning institutions, whose secretary and chairperson will automatically become NEC members.

This was revealed in Dodoma on Sunday by President Jakaya Kikwete when launching the party’s website and blog.
He said NEC was expected to appoint the regional secretary yesterday and thereafter procedures for election of the chair will start.

“Tomorrow (yesterday) we will appoint a secretary for the special region, which will be followed by other internal election procedures," he said.

Commenting on the party’s website and blog, President Kikwete said that youths have been mostly using the modern technology.
He said there has been an increase in the number of users of social networks, saying whereas in 2000 there were 115,000 customers now there were about 4.9 clients.

President Kikwete said there were not less than 50 social networks while Facebook users alone were 437,040. He said the new technology was also environment-friendly.
He said the challenge facing the party’s publicity and ideology department was to ensure that the party’s website and blog  were timely updated.

For his part, Publicity and Ideology secretary Nape Nnauye (pictured) said the special region would focus on providing opportunities to youths in higher learning institutions.

“This region is special because it will have a special election system which will be held each year. It is also implementation of the party’s strategy to strengthen itself, including in institutions of higher learning,” Nnauye said.
