The Tanzanian Embassy in India, in collaboration with Tanzania National Park Authority (Tanapa) and the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB), has organised tourism road shows to promote the country’s tourist attractions in three Indian cities.

Philip Chitaunga, Tourism Service Manager at TTB told The Guardian yesterday that the road shows will be held in cities which are located in tourist source markets of Mumbai, Bungalow and New Delhi to lure more visitors to Tanzania.

“The road shows would be conducted from July 3 to 6, this year and as I speak to you, already eight companies have confirmed to take part,” he said, noting that among them four are hoteliers, three tour operators, one is a travel agent and one is an airline.

These multi-city road shows are the first of their kind to be organised in India and will be a step in Tanzanian’s bid to tap a portion of the annual five million outbound travelling population from India to overseas destinations by way of individuals, family movements, corporate incentive visitors and student travellers.

“As TTB and Tanapa we ask Tanzanian firms to use this opportunity because the road shows have been organised for them to promote their services and products,” he said.

“People who are interested to participate in this grand show are encouraged to visit us at TTB and Tanapa for proper information on how to take part,” he said.

At the moment TTB and Tanapa are preparing enough tourism promotional materials that would be sent to the Tanzania Embassy for distribution to the three cities where the road shows will take place.

The road shows would also provide time for a one-to-one establish and cultivate business contacts and help learn about the latest travel trends and developments in Tanzanian tourism, he said.

“We have decided to organize the promotion because India is number six source of tourists to Tanzania and is among the top ten tourism source market for Tanzania. In 2010 it was number six tourism source market for visitors to Tanzania,” he noted.
