Hani Nasser, a member of Egypt Tennis Association technical panel, is expected in Dar es Salaam today to conduct a five-day coaches’ refresher course.

The Tanzania Tennis Association (TTA) secretary general, Inger Njau, said the Egyptian trainer will start the program tomorrow at the Kijitonyama tennis grounds when he will train coaches and young players.

 The instructor will continue to train coaches and young players up to Wednesday before shifting to Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC) on Thursday where a refresher seminar for coaches has been organised to take place.

Njau said the Egyptian trainer, who also played professional tennis, will train young players at DGC on Friday.

She said the refresher course will help the country create its own coaching education program and improve the standard of the game’s coaching.

“The arrival of this coach will help our coaches to be updated on modern techniques of the game and we also hope his stay will inspire our young players to achieve improve,” she said.    

National youth team coach Hassan Kassim said the coming of the coach will be an eye opener to all tennis coaches in the country. He said the Egyptian trainer will assist on how to train young players on the use of modified balls.

He also said the refresher course will help local coaches to improve their level of coaching which will ultimately benefit the junior program which TTA is implementing in schools and communities.

"We have a youth tennis program which we are targeting school children and others in the communities. It’s our hope that the arrival of the Egyptian will give us some ideas on how we can successfully implement the youth tennis promotion program," he said.
 
The International Tennis Federation (ITF) funded school program is expected to resume early next month.

The program is currently being implemented at some Dar es Salaam primary and secondary schools but was suspended two months ago due to rain season.
