A Yusuph Ndayishimiye goal saved Kiyovu from losing at home in a Confederation Cup preliminary round, first round match at Nyamirambo Stadium yesterday.
Ndayishimiye headed home a corner kick in the 87th minute to level for the home side and made the game end 1-1.
Simba scored first in the 44th minute through Mwinyi Kazimoto whose long range hit from afar overpowered custodian Pascal Dukuzeyezu.
Simba had earlier made a number of dangerous moves through Emmanuel Okwi and Patrick Mafisango but their attempts were always thwarted by goalie Dukuzeyezu.
The home side made a dangerous move in the 17th minute through Jean Shyaka and Julius Bakkabulindi.
Referee Thierry Nkurunziza from Burundi maintained the game well.
Simba coach Milovan Cirkovic said Kiyovu played well and were more confident than Simba. The teams will meet in the return leg match to be played in Dar es Salaam in the next two weeks. Simba will just need a goalless draw to advance, or an outright win.
