Swimmers who will represent the nation at the coming CAN Zone 3&4 tournament in Mozambique will be known today at time try outs which will take place at the International School of Tanganyika (IST) Upanga Camps, Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) technical director Marcelino Ngalioma said yesterday.

The Mozambique CAN Zone 3&4 games will be held from April 25-29 in Maputo.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam, Ngalioma said eleven clubs have confirmed their participation at the tournament which is known as Southern Sun Swimming Championship.

He said they are expecting to select more than twenty swimmers during the time try outs.

The time try outs was initially planned to take place last weekend at Heaven of Peace Academy (HOPAC) but were pushed back to today for reasons which TSA did not disclose.

He said they will have five styles and two best swimmers from each style will be selected.

He named the styles as side stroke, breast stroke, freestyle, backstroke and butterfly stroke.

Ngalioma also named the clubs which will compete at the today’s championship as Dar es Salaam Swimming Club, Taliss, Stringrays Swimming Club, Isimailo of Mwanza, Zanzibar Swimming Club, HOPAC, Tanzania Marine Swimming Club, Kigamboni Swimming Club, University of Dar es Salaam Swimming Club, Savannah Plains international School and International School of Morogoro.

“We will be meeting tomorrow (today) for time try outs and at the end we will select the team which will represent the country at the coming CAN Zone 3&4 games,” he said.

He said TSA is well prepared to send the team after failing to send the team at last year’s CAN Zone 3&4 tournament which was held in Botswana.

The local team could not travel to Botswana due to lack of funds.
