Nine teams have qualified to feature in this season’s edition of intermediate league after round-robin matches of the First Division League came to an end mid this week.

Of the nine qualifiers, seven of them belong to army which includes Police, Prisons and National Service.

Three teams from as many groups will compete for a place in the Mainland premiership berth in another round robin matches set to kick off on March 17 at a venue to be announced later by the Tanzania Football Federation.

The nine teams include Police Dar, Transit Camp and Tanga’s Mgambo FC from Group A. Group B teams heading to the intermediate league are Mbeya City, Prisons Mbeya and JKT Mlale. Group C qualifiers are Police Tabora, Police Morogoro and Rhino Rangers.

Four top-placed teams out of the nine will be eligible to win the top flight berth for the subsequent season expected to kick off in August.

Police Dar qualified at the expense of Morani FC following their 2-0 goals victory in their final match played at the Mabatini venue in Ruvu last Wednesday.

Transit battled to a 1-1 draw with Burkina Faso in a match played at the Jamhuri Stadium in Morogoro. Temeke United beat Mgambo JKT by one goal but the army team managed to scrape through the qualifiers’ vessel.

The football federation is still organizing the match centre where the round robin ties will be played. So far Mwanza, Songea and Mbeya football authorities have shown strong interest to host the promotional league.

Last season’s finals were held in Tanga where Coastal Union capitalized on home ground advantage to win top flight promotion in the same batch with Villa Squad and Oljoro JKT.
