Twiga Stars head coach Charles Mkwasa yesterday called 25 players to join a training camp in Dar es Salaam ahead of the team’s African Women Championship (AWC) qualifier against their counterparts from Ethiopia next month.
The players are expected to report at the camp on Sunday for training sessions as they gear up for the crucial qualifier tie.
Players called by the coach and their teams in bracket are Amina Salum (Lord Baden School), Asha Rashid, Evelyn Senkubo, Fatuma Gotagota, Mwanahamisi Omari, Zena Khamis and Fatuma Khatib (Mburahati Queens).
Others are Aziza Mwadini (New Generation, Zanzibar), Esther Mayala (Street Girls, Mwanza) and Fatuma Bashiri (Simba Queens).
Uzuri Queens soccer team players joining the camp include Mwanaidi Khamis, Zena Said and Hanifa Idd, Fadhila Hamad as Fatuma Mustafa, Rukia Khamis and Fatuma Omari (Sayari), and Maimuna Said and Mwajuma Abdallah (JKT).
Others are Mwapewa Mtumwa (Temeke), Semeni Abeid and Veneranda Mbano (Tanzanite), Siajabu Hassan (Evergreen), Tatu Salum (Makongo Sekondary) and Upendo Jeremiah (Pangani, Tanga).
Twiga Stars have to pass the Ethiopia hurdle ahead of winning the AWC berth for the second time in two years following their maiden appearance in the 2010 finals hosted by South Africa.
This year’s finals will be held in Equatorial Guinea, a country with formidable women’s football side.
